Nationalism and Identity - Part 1 - Religion, Kingdoms, and Time

For most of my life, I felt like I didn’t really belong to any one specific culture or place.

American Collapse

For the older generations, and the immigrant mentality subscribers, America is unlike any other nation: it represents a better future. These older immigrants are unable to see that the declining nations in which they fled were merely latent versions of collapsing empires or struggling colonies, just like America. Except America is center-stage as its culture, economy, and power descends into obscurity, taking all of its citizens with it. That would be you and me, if you live in America.

This American Collapse prompts a slew of questions for the more informed American citizen:

  • If we Americans are going down with our nation, what exactly does that entail?

  • What if you don’t feel you belong to America?

  • What if you don’t feel you belong to your own heritage within America?

  • If you’re American, does that mean you have to endure the downfall or can you bail?

  • Do you actually owe your livelihood to this nation?

  • What does it mean to be American?

If any of these questions sound familiar, this series will engage with you through a historical and cultural discourse on nations. Because, in my search to find a home, I discovered the real question isn’t “What does it mean to be American?” What I discovered was a place that went beyond a nation and into the very heart of where imagination and power collide.

It’s a long answer. You may not like a large amount of it either. Probably, most of it, to be honest. And whether you are American or not, your entire lineage has a part to play in the answer. At the end of this series, you may think of your world, your life, your family, your future, differently.

Maybe, you’ll actively seek to shed your nationhood and belong to no specific kingdom, empire, tribe, or nation.

Wherever that is for you, you’ll find me waiting to welcome you home.
